Deepening Regulatory Capability: David Northcott Joins RP
27 October 2021 – Transmission policy and legal adviser David Northcott joins Rennie Partners as a Manager in Brisbane.
Simone and Matt Rennie welcome David and acknowledge his deep understanding of current transmission policy and reform, as well as his experience with network regulation through his time as a regulatory and commercial lawyer with Minter Ellison. “We are seeing strong demand in the market for strategic, commercial and regulatory assistance, particularly in the infrastructure arena, where transmission and distribution networks are increasingly forming part of the deepening ecosystem for large and small scale renewables and storage” Ms Rennie said.
Prior to joining Rennie Partners, David spent over three years with the Electricity Division within the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources and, prior to that, was engaged for almost three years as a commercial lawyer in the commercial and regulatory space. During that time, David worked closely with electricity distributors on Power of Choice reforms, connection offers and agreements, and in relation to distribution determinations. He also advised on transmission network connection issues and contractual arrangements.
“David brings a sound legal and policy background to our strong regulatory capability, and is a fantastic complement to our team. His recent experience around transmission charging, and around transmission planning and access arrangements for renewable energy zones in particular reflects an emerging area of practice for our group, and one that we are becoming increasingly involved in”. Ms Rennie said.
“I’m excited to be joining the team at Rennie Partners and to bring my experience and enthusiasm to the carbon transition” said David. “Asset intensive industries are entering a time of pivotal change. I feel a strong alignment to the Rennie Partners mission and purpose to work with clients to platform, design and navigate their optimal long-term pathways”.
David starts with the firm on 15 November 2021.
